Former governor of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has signalled a possible political realignment ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, suggesting he could work with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“We may work with Atiku Abubakar for 2027. It’s just politics,” Kwankwaso said, in remarks that have already stirred speculation about shifting alliances within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
The comment adds to ongoing conversations around coalition-building as political actors position themselves ahead of the next general elections, where alliances are expected to play a decisive role.
Neither Kwankwaso nor Atiku has outlined the structure or conditions of any potential collaboration, but analysts say such a pairing—if it materialises—could reshape opposition calculations in the run-up to 2027.
