Senator Jibrin Isah, representing Kogi East and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs and Excise Duties, has thrown his full weight behind the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing’s decision to terminate the long-stalled contracts for the Anyigba-Dekina-Shintaku and Oguma roads. Stating the frustrations of countless commuters and communities, Senator Isah lauded Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, for what he described as a “courageous and necessary step.”

The Anyigba-Dekina-Shintaku and Oguma roads, vital arteries connecting major communities in Kogi East, have become symbols of neglect and unfulfilled promises. For years, residents have grappled with the impassable state of these roads, enduring daily hardships and economic stagnation.

Speaking to the press today, Senator Isah did not mince words, stating, “The delay on these critical projects was not just unnecessary; it was a grave injustice to the people of Kogi East. Our constituents have suffered for too long.

However, We have watched with increasing dismay as these contractors showed no serious commitment, leaving our roads in a deplorable state. The decision by Minister Umahi to terminate these contracts is a testament to the renewed commitment of the Tinubu administration to delivering on its promises and holding contractors accountable.”

The Senator’s commendation was followed by a fervent call for immediate action. “While we applaud the termination, the real work begins now,” he asserted.

“I am calling on the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to swiftly re-award these contracts to serious and competent contractors—firms with a proven track record of timely and quality project delivery. There must be no room for further delays.

A prominent community leader in Anyigba, Ibrahim Omale, also praised the government’s move, stating, “This is a victory for the common man. We have suffered enough. We urge the government to listen to our Senator and act with urgency. We need a serious contractor on site, not a phantom one.

The people of Anyigba, Dekina, Shintaku, and Oguma deserve to see tangible progress on their roads without delay. This is not a time for political maneuvering; it is a time for decisive action.”

The leadership of Engr. Umahi, has in recent weeks demonstrated a zero-tolerance policy for contractor non-performance. The Minister’s recent statements have emphasized accountability and a commitment to completing all ongoing projects across the nation.

Furthermore it should be noted that this strategic move in Kogi East is seen as a direct reflection of that policy, sending a clear message to all contractors that the era of indolence on public projects is over.

The expectation is high that the Anyigba-Dekina-Shintaku and Oguma road projects will be re-awarded without delay, paving the way for not just better roads, but for a revitalized economy and renewed hope for the people of Kogi East.
