Kano Mourns Loss of Veteran Broadcaster Aliyu Abubakar Getso

Kano, Nigeria – Veteran journalist and broadcaster, Aliyu Abubakar Getso, has passed away at the age of 65. The news of his death was confirmed by his daughter, Aisha Getso, in a heartfelt post on Facebook early Sunday morning. According to Aisha, her father died peacefully at his residence in Jambulu, Kano, around 3:00 a.m.

In her post, Aisha expressed: “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return! My father (Aliyu Abubakar Getso) has died around 3:00 am on Sunday night. His burial will be held around 9:30 am at his house in Jambulu, by Allah’s grace. May Allah forgive him and have mercy on him, amen.”

Getso, widely known for his work across prominent radio stations in Northern Nigeria, was a respected figure in the media landscape. His career spanned decades, and he was known for his insightful commentary and dedication to credible journalism. He worked with various respected stations, including Kano State Radio Corporation, Freedom Radio, Premier Radio, and Vision FM.

Colleagues and admirers remember him as a mentor to many young broadcasters, helping to shape the next generation of Nigerian media professionals. His contributions to the media industry and his strong advocacy for truthful reporting left an indelible mark on the broadcasting community.

Getso is survived by three wives, children, and grandchildren. Family, colleagues, and supporters gathered for his funeral prayers and burial on Sunday morning in Jambulu, where they paid their final respects to the late broadcaster.
