Nigerian police say they have arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of a woman and her six children in Kano State, a case that has shocked residents and sparked widespread outrage.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Kano State Police Command said the suspects were taken into custody following preliminary investigations into the incident, which occurred in a residential neighbourhood of the state capital.
Police spokespersons said the victims were found dead under circumstances that suggested a violent attack, prompting an immediate investigation by detectives and forensic teams.
“The command has arrested three suspects in relation to the murder of a woman and her six children,” the police said, adding that efforts were ongoing to establish the motive behind the killings and the exact roles played by each suspect.
Authorities did not disclose the identities of the suspects or further details of the incident, citing the need to protect the integrity of the investigation.
The killings have drawn strong reactions from community leaders and rights groups, who have called for swift justice and improved security to prevent similar tragedies.
Police assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, reiterating their commitment to bringing all those responsible to justice.
The incident has renewed concerns over violent crime in parts of northern Nigeria, where residents continue to grapple with insecurity despite increased law enforcement efforts.
