Authorities in Nigeria’s Kano state have dismissed reports suggesting that governance has been paralysed following a directive by Governor Abba Yusuf temporarily halting the submission of official files from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to his office.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, the administration described the claims as “incorrect, misleading and without any factual or legal basis”, insisting that the day-to-day running of government has continued uninterrupted.
According to the statement, the directive was issued in late December 2025 and was linked to routine administrative and legal processes surrounding the end of the 2025 fiscal year. It coincided with the expiration of the previous Appropriation Law and the ongoing review of a new budget by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The government explained that the measure was intended to ensure strict compliance with financial regulations during the budget transition period, not to suspend governance or decision-making across MDAs.
Officials added that essential government functions, including service delivery and internal administrative processes, have remained fully operational.
The Kano state government urged the public to disregard what it described as speculative reports, reiterating its commitment to transparency, lawful governance and the effective running of state affairs.
