Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a fresh ₦200 billion lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, intensifying the long-running political and legal confrontation between the two politicians.
The new suit, reportedly lodged at a Federal High Court, adds a major twist to their dispute, which has seen both parties exchange allegations in recent months. While full details of the latest filing are yet to be made public, sources indicate that Akpabio is seeking substantial damages over alleged defamatory statements made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The Senate President’s legal team is said to be arguing that the claims made by the Kogi Central senator have caused significant injury to his reputation and office. Akpoti-Uduaghan, however, has consistently insisted that her comments were made in good faith and in the public interest.
This latest lawsuit marks one of the largest personal claims in Nigeria’s recent political history, reflecting the deepening rift between the two high-profile lawmakers.
Both camps have yet to issue official statements, but political analysts say the development could further heighten tensions within the National Assembly and the wider political landscape.
Details of the case are expected to emerge as court proceedings commence.
