Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has responded defiantly to the ₦200bn sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, insisting she is fully prepared to present evidence to back her claims.
Akpabio filed the suit following allegations made by the Kogi-born senator, who accused him of inappropriate conduct. The Senate President has strongly denied the claims, seeking substantial damages over what he described as a deliberate attempt to injure his reputation.
In her reaction on Wednesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan maintained that she stands by every statement she has made on the matter, stressing that she will not be intimidated by the magnitude of the legal action. She further vowed to provide documentary and testimonial evidence in court to prove her allegations.
The unfolding legal tussle has sparked nationwide debate, drawing attention to issues of accountability, power dynamics, and harassment within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Observers say the case—one of the highest-valued defamation and harassment claims filed by a public officeholder in recent years—could set a significant precedent for how such allegations are handled in public institutions.
