Former President Goodluck Jonathan is set to return to Aso Rock as Nigeria’s president in 2027, according to Prof. Jerry Gana, former Minister of Information and National Orientation. Speaking after the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Niger State Congress in Minna, Gana confirmed that Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential elections as the party’s candidate, pledging his return to the presidency after what he described as a period of dissatisfaction under the current leadership.
In a statement that resonated with the yearning of many Nigerians for a change, Gana declared, “Nigerians have seen the difference. After Jonathan’s tenure, they have experienced two other leaders, and the difference is very clear. The call for Jonathan’s return is loud, and we should prepare for a triumphant return in 2027.”
He explained that after Jonathan’s presidency in 2015, Nigerians were offered another leadership that lasted eight years, followed by another two years of governance. However, Gana suggested that the nation has now seen enough and the public’s desire for Jonathan’s leadership again is palpable.
Echoing this sentiment, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State reiterated that the PDP has been revitalized and is ready to take back control of the presidency in 2027. “We are shaping a new PDP, one that is people-oriented and trustworthy,” said Fintiri, during the party’s congress. “We are truly ready for 2027.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa criticized Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, accusing him of politicizing the recent terrorist attack in Wagga Mongoro, Madagali Local Government Area. According to the APC, Atiku’s response to the attack was insensitive and politically motivated, exploiting a national tragedy for personal gain.
“Atiku’s response was riddled with inaccuracies and lacked the solemn reflection expected in such a moment of national grief,” the APC statement read. “Instead of offering support to the grieving, he chose to exploit the situation.”
