The Jigawa State House of Assembly has adopted a report recommending the recovery of allegedly mismanaged public funds during the administration of former governor, Badaru Abubakar, as well as across the state’s 27 local government councils between 2019 and 2024.
The resolution followed the presentation of a comprehensive report by the House Committee on Public Accounts during plenary.
Presenting the findings, committee chairman, Isyaku Abubakar, said the panel conducted public hearings and carried out an extensive review of audit reports from the Office of the Auditor-General covering both state institutions and local councils within the period under investigation.
He added that the committee scrutinised audited financial statements, payment vouchers, contract records and procurement documents of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), alongside those of the 27 local government councils.
Lawmakers unanimously adopted the report through a voice vote presided over by the Speaker, paving the way for its transmission to the executive arm for further action.
Authorities are yet to announce specific measures to be taken following the Assembly’s recommendation.
