Iran issued a warning on Monday, stating it would deploy naval mines across strategic waterways in the Gulf should the United States or Israel launch an attack on its territorial coasts or islands.
In a statement carried by state media, the country’s defense council declared that such a response would be inevitable.
“Any attempt by the enemy to attack Iranian coasts or islands will naturally, and in accordance with established military practice, lead to all access routes and communication lines in the Persian Gulf and coastal areas being mined with various types of naval mines, including drifting mines deployable from the coasts,” the council said.
The defense council, which operates under the auspices of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was established following the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June 2025.
