Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, describing insurgency and violent criminality as a thriving multi-million-naira economy sustained by an extensive network of financiers, suppliers and collaborators.

Speaking on the persistent wave of insecurity across the country, the governor argued that armed violence has evolved beyond isolated acts of terrorism into a lucrative enterprise that continues to enrich those who profit from instability.

“Insurgency today has become a multi-million-naira economy in itself, and we need to find ways to dismantle the supply chain,” Mutfwang said.

The governor stressed that addressing the country’s security challenges requires more than military operations alone. He called for a comprehensive strategy aimed at disrupting the financial and logistical networks that sustain insurgent groups, including the flow of weapons, funding, intelligence and other forms of support.

According to Mutfwang, lasting peace can only be achieved by targeting the economic structures that incentivise conflict and by holding accountable those who benefit from prolonged insecurity.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over recurring attacks by armed groups in several parts of Nigeria, with security experts increasingly advocating stronger intelligence gathering, improved inter-agency collaboration and tougher action against individuals and organisations linked to the financing of terrorism and organised crime.

The Plateau governor maintained that dismantling the supply chain fuelling insurgency remains a critical step towards restoring peace, protecting lives and reversing the cycle of violence that has continued to threaten communities across the country.
