Nigeria’s electoral commission has formally acknowledged a new leadership lineup within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signalling a fresh twist in the party’s ongoing internal power struggle.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official website to reflect the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike, marking a significant institutional recognition amid the party’s protracted leadership dispute.

According to the update, Abdulrahman Mohammed is now listed as National Chairman, while Samuel Anyanwu appears as National Secretary, alongside other members of the PDP National Working Committee.

The development is likely to deepen tensions within Nigeria’s main opposition party, where rival camps have been locked in a fierce contest for control ahead of future political contests. Analysts say the electoral body’s move could reshape internal dynamics and influence the party’s strategic positioning in the months ahead.
