The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the full list of locations where Nigerians can participate in the forthcoming nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the electoral body, the exercise will commence with online pre-registration from Monday, August 18, 2025, followed by in-person registration from Monday, August 25, 2025. Both formats will run simultaneously until August 30, 2026.

INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja. He explained that the registration will take place in 811 designated centres across Nigeria.

“The exercise will hold in 811 centres made up of our 774 Local Government, 37 State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) offices nationwide, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Monday to Friday) every week, with the exception of national public holidays,” Olumekun stated.

To enhance accessibility, the Commission has launched a CVR Live Locator tool to help citizens identify their nearest registration centre. The tool, available at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator, will go live on August 17, a day before the official resumption of online registration.

Olumekun added: “The Commission has today uploaded a 38-page document to our website and other official online platforms indicating the addresses of the 811 in-person registration centres nationwide. Similarly, dedicated telephone numbers have been given for each state of the Federation to serve as Help Desk for citizens who require further clarification.”

The voter registration procedure, whether online or in person, will follow the same model used during the 2022 CVR. INEC has promised to release fresh educational materials and video guides next week to ensure voters understand the process.

In addition to voter registration updates, INEC disclosed that it has now received 151 letters of intent from associations seeking to register as political parties. Eight of those applications were received since the Commission’s last update on July 23, 2025.

Olumekun noted that the party registration portal is now active and that some of the associations have advanced to the shortlisting stage.

He said: “The Commission has started shortlisting associations that meet the initial criteria to proceed to the formal application stage. Full details of the shortlisted associations will be published after the 16 bye-elections scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, across 12 states.”
