Senator Ned Nwoko has sparked fresh controversy after publicly declaring his sympathy for men married to only one woman, likening monogamy to “standing on one leg”.
The Delta North lawmaker made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Sunday, where he defended his practice of polygamy against critics.
“I feel sorry for those who have one wife. Just imagine standing on one leg it’s difficult. But with two, three, or four, you’re more balanced. That’s the example I give,” Nwoko said whilst explaining his views on marriage.
The senator, who is married to four wives including Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, insisted he harboured no regrets about his marital choices and would make the same decisions again.
“No, I don’t have any regret. I would do the same thing again. You should marry who you want to marry,” he stated firmly.
When the programme’s presenter challenged him on the Biblical stance against polygamy, Nwoko countered by referencing the Old Testament, declaring: “The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for.”
The lawmaker also addressed recent allegations of domestic violence involving his wife, Regina Daniels, dismissing them as baseless fabrications.
“I am not a violent person. I respect my wives and love them and my kids,” he added.
His comments come weeks after Regina Daniels unveiled a new mansion on social media with a cryptic caption that read: “In my house, I am a queen. I needed a roof over my head, so I got this for me and my family.” The post had fuelled speculation about tensions within the household.
