Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has issued a stinging response to political mentor and former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso amid growing tensions within the state’s political establishment.
Speaking during a public engagement, Yusuf dismissed remarks allegedly directed at him by Kwankwaso, warning that continued attacks could force him to publicly reveal sensitive details about their relationship.
“A 69-year-old cannot call someone who is 63 a boy,” Yusuf said. “I tolerated that because of obedience. If he doesn’t keep quiet, I would start saying things he wouldn’t like.”
The comments mark one of the clearest signs yet of a widening rift between the Kano governor and Kwankwaso, a powerful political figure widely regarded as Yusuf’s longtime benefactor and ally.
The development is expected to deepen speculation over internal divisions within Kano’s political structure, with observers closely watching for possible fallout ahead of future political contests.
