Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has stirred fresh debate in Nigeria’s political space after declaring that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is “not electable.”

Amaechi made the blunt remark amid growing conversations over possible alignments and power shifts ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

While he did not immediately elaborate on the statement, the comment is expected to deepen political tensions within the opposition camp, where Atiku remains one of the most influential figures.

Atiku, who emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has repeatedly signalled his continued interest in Nigeria’s political future despite multiple unsuccessful presidential bids.

Amaechi, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has also remained a key voice in national politics since leaving office as minister.

The latest remarks are likely to fuel renewed political calculations and public debate as Nigeria’s political class gradually begins positioning for the next electoral cycle.
