Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged landlords and landowners in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area to maintain current rent levels for houses and shops. This appeal was made during the inauguration of the newly constructed Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga roads. The governor emphasized that the goal of these infrastructure projects is to enhance residents’ quality of life without imposing additional financial burdens.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the 643-meter road construction, featuring a bridge with slip roads, began on October 24, 2022. This project replaces a swamp area that previously required residents to use a wooden bridge for a fee, significantly improving local connectivity.

Sanwo-Olu stressed that the new infrastructure is intended to alleviate, not aggravate, the financial strain on residents. He appealed to landlords and landowners to avoid rent increases, ensuring that the community can fully benefit from the improvements after facing years of environmental challenges. He also urged local leaders to prevent the misuse of the new bridge as a dumping ground.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to tackling longstanding community issues such as flooding and commuting difficulties. His efforts were supported by Mr. Olufemi Daramola, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure, who underscored the administration’s dedication to launching and completing projects that serve the public interest.

Additionally, NAN reported that Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the Alapere pedestrian bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area. This bridge, which had been destroyed by an articulated vehicle in December of the previous year, is now restored, further enhancing pedestrian safety and infrastructure resilience in the area.
