Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his dedication to governance that truly benefits the people. Speaking at the inauguration of staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School in Abuja, Wike praised the President as a leader who champions significant and forward-thinking policies.
Wike underscored that Tinubu’s governance style has been instrumental in enabling him to fulfill his ministerial responsibilities effectively. “It is one thing to give somebody an appointment; it is another thing to give full support,” Wike noted, expressing his gratitude for the President’s backing, which has empowered him to advance crucial projects in the FCT.
Wike likened Tinubu’s leadership to that of a businessman committed to the success of his enterprise, emphasizing that Tinubu’s approach to governance ensures tangible benefits for citizens. He highlighted the administration’s strategic decision to discontinue the single-treasury account for the FCT, which has allowed the territory to leverage commercial banking services and unlock funds for infrastructure development.
Reflecting on these changes, Wike stated, “We were not a single-treasurer account. In fact, if we were still operating that, you wouldn’t have seen me at the Cuban Philographer Project. But Mr. President knew that pulling us out of that single-treasurer account and making us independent to participate in the wider financial market will bring a lot of improvement on infrastructure.”
Wike emphasized that such advancements would not have been achievable without Tinubu’s vision and support. Using a local analogy, he added, “When people say the minister is doing this or that, it’s because there’s someone behind him providing the necessary backing, and that’s Mr. President.”
