Fear has gripped commuters in Kogi State following the abduction of an unspecified number of passengers by gunmen along the Ejule–Aloma Road in Ofu Local Government Area.
The victims, who were traveling in a commercial Toyota Sienna bus, were intercepted in a daring daylight attack on Monday. According to local sources, the assailants—suspected to be bandits—blocked the highway, forced the vehicle to a halt, and marched all occupants into the surrounding forest at gunpoint.
While details of the number of victims remain unconfirmed, the brazen nature of the attack has sent shockwaves through the local community. As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Command and other security agencies have yet to issue an official statement or confirm if a rescue operation has been launched.
A resident of the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described the Ejule–Aloma corridor as increasingly dangerous. “The attackers appeared from the bush and took over the road. There was nothing anyone could do. They took everyone in the Sienna,” the source said.
Local community leaders have issued an urgent advisory, warning regular commuters to avoid the route or remain on high alert. The incident is the latest in a worrying trend of highway kidnappings in Kogi, where armed groups continue to target travelers despite government assurances of improved security.
