“Let right, not might, prevail,” Ogun Governor charges newly appointed judges

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has sworn in three distinguished legal minds as new judges of the state judiciary, urging them to become unwavering guardians of justice and the people’s final hope against oppression.

The ceremony, held in Abeokuta on Monday, saw the induction of Julius Ojikutu, former Chief Registrar of the Ogun State High Court; Adejumoke Adewole, erstwhile Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development; and Oluyemisi Adebo, who previously served as Secretary of the Ogun Judicial Service Commission.

Speaking during the swearing-in, Governor Abiodun, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, laid down a stirring call to duty. He charged the judges to serve as the moral compass of society, ensuring that the scales of justice never tip in favour of the powerful at the expense of the powerless.

“Our democracy survives because principled judges stand as sentinels of fairness,” the governor declared. “Let your judgments be anchored in the fear of God, guided by your conscience, and rooted in the Nigerian Constitution.”

Governor Abiodun emphasised the sacred responsibility that comes with judicial office, calling for integrity, impartiality, and courage in the face of pressure.

“The nation does not merely need legal experts; it needs men and women of unimpeachable character—firm, fearless, and faithful to the truth,” he said.

He reminded the new judges that their role transcends legal procedure; it is a moral contract with the Nigerian people.

“This is more than a constitutional duty; it is a solemn obligation to make justice real and felt by all, regardless of ethnicity, creed, political leaning, or social class.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the independence of the judiciary, Abiodun assured continued support for the justice system.

“Ours is a government that honours the rule of law. I am a living testament to the power of a fair judiciary. We shall continue to respect court rulings and invest in the structures that ensure swift and impartial justice.”
