Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has urged residents to remain calm amid rising political tensions, assuring them that the state remains committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a peaceful and democratic manner.
Speaking during his New Year message at the Rivers State Government House, Fubara dismissed what he described as “the sound of war” circulating in the political space, insisting that Rivers people have nothing to fear.
“Do not be troubled by the sound of war you are hearing,” the governor said. “You know the promise we made to the man, President Tinubu, who stood by us to be standing today. We will continue to give him that support — not by noise, not by threats — but by assuring the people of Rivers State that, in a peaceful manner, Tinubu will have his way in Rivers State.”
Fubara emphasised that his administration remains focused on stability, development, and the collective interest of residents, noting that political disagreements must never be allowed to disrupt the state’s progress or peace.
He added that the government would continue to engage with stakeholders to ensure that Rivers State maintains its long-standing role as a centre of political influence and national relevance.
The governor’s remarks come at a time of heightened political friction in the state, with various groups and alliances making strong public statements about the direction of governance and political loyalty.
Fubara’s message sought to calm anxieties and reinforce confidence as the state steps into a new year.
