The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank, Oluwasegun Alebiosu, received an envelope containing two live bullets at his residence in Lagos in what police are treating as a disturbing security incident.
The revelation was made by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, who disclosed that the package was delivered by a dispatch rider and initially received by security personnel stationed at Alebiosu’s residence.
According to the police, the parcel was accepted because it was addressed directly to the First Bank chief executive and clearly marked “confidential”. It was subsequently handed over to him without suspicion.
However, upon opening the envelope, Alebiosu reportedly discovered two live bullets concealed inside. Authorities said the package contained no letter, note or any form of identification that could indicate the sender’s identity or motive.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the parcel, identify the dispatch rider and determine those responsible for what appears to be a threatening message directed at one of Nigeria’s top banking executives.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the security of high-profile public and corporate figures, with investigators expected to review surveillance footage and other evidence as part of ongoing efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the delivery.
Authorities have yet to announce any arrests, while First Bank has not publicly commented on the development.
