The latest incident in Faskari comes four days after violence disrupted the campaign’s flag-off rally in Funtua, raising fresh concerns over political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The campaign train of President Bola Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has suffered another setback following an attack on its convoy by suspected angry youths in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, with several campaign vehicles vandalised, while others were set ablaze. Several people were also said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack.

The latest violence comes barely four days after the campaign was disrupted during its flag-off rally in Funtua, where campaign vehicles were reportedly attacked along roads in Malumfashi town and some communities in Kankara Local Government Area.

The recurrence of attacks across the three local government areas has raised concerns about the security of political activities in the state as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

Interestingly, the affected areas are associated with prominent members of the Katsina State Government’s Executive Council.

The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Abdulkadir Nasir, is from Malumfashi, while the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba, hails from Faskari, where the latest incident occurred. The Deputy Governor, Faruk Jobe, is from Kankara.

However, there has been no official confirmation linking the attacks to any political interests or individuals.

In an earlier statement, the Tinubu-Dikko Campaign Council, through its Media Directorate, called on relevant security agencies to investigate the reported incidents, establish the circumstances surrounding the attacks and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The council also appealed to political parties, their supporters and other stakeholders to exercise restraint, avoid inflammatory statements and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of escalating political tensions in the state.

The latest attack adds to growing concerns over political security in Katsina, with calls mounting for authorities to prevent further violence and ensure that political campaigns are conducted peacefully ahead of the 2027 elections.
