Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has warned that the country’s battle against insurgency cannot be won without the active support and cooperation of Nigerians.

Speaking on the security challenges facing the country, Musa stressed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria cannot single-handedly defeat insurgents, urging citizens to provide timely intelligence and collaborate with security agencies in tackling insecurity.

“The fight against insurgency will be difficult if Nigerians are not ready to support the Nigerian Armed Forces,” the minister said, underscoring the critical role of public participation in ongoing military operations.

Musa noted that while the military remains committed to restoring peace across troubled regions, success depends on a collective national effort involving communities, traditional leaders and other stakeholders.

Nigeria has battled insurgency, particularly in the North East, for more than a decade, with security forces continuing operations against armed groups while facing challenges including intelligence gathering, logistics and attacks on civilian communities.

The defence minister’s remarks come amid renewed efforts by the government to strengthen security cooperation and encourage citizens to play a more active role in safeguarding their communities.
