The Nigerian government has announced a third evacuation flight to repatriate 271 citizens stranded in South Africa, as efforts continue to assist nationals seeking to return home.

Authorities said the chartered flight is scheduled to depart Johannesburg at midnight on Thursday, marking the latest phase of the government’s ongoing evacuation programme.

The latest operation follows two previous airlifts organised by the Federal Government to facilitate the voluntary return of Nigerians from South Africa amid ongoing consular assistance and migration support efforts.

Officials said the evacuees had completed the necessary documentation and travel arrangements before boarding the flight. Upon arrival in Nigeria, the returnees are expected to receive support through relevant government agencies as part of the reintegration process.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians abroad, pledging to continue working with diplomatic missions and international partners to provide assistance to citizens facing challenges overseas.
