The Federal Government has successfully repatriated 11 Nigerian miners who were stranded in the Central African Republic (CAR).
The return was made possible through the intervention of Nigerian authorities, with the group arriving in Abuja on Thursday.
The Nigerians, who had been abandoned by a Chinese company at a remote site in the CAR, were transported back on an Asky Airlines Boeing 747-200 aircraft.
The plane landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 4:45 pm, where they were warmly welcomed by Nigerian officials, including the Nigerian ambassador to the CAR, Babagana Ahmed.
Upon arrival, the returnees were escorted to the Hajj Terminal, where they were cleared by the Nigerian Immigration Service and screened by security agencies.
Their return came after a viral video in late July showed them pleading for help, as they had been left without support in an unfamiliar and difficult location.
