Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John‑Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12‑year‑old twin sons after a late‑night gun battle with suspected kidnappers.
Police said the victims were freed alive at about 7:30pm on Saturday, three days after they were abducted on the morning of June 3 while travelling to school in Ibadan. The twins were identified as Peter and Paul.
According to security sources, two suspected kidnappers were killed during an exchange of gunfire with the operatives. Two firearms were recovered from the gang. Some other members of the syndicate fled the scene and are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
The rescue followed sustained intelligence gathering, tracking of the suspects’ movements and coordinated tactical operations by security personnel, police sources said. They added that mounting pressure from operatives forced the kidnappers into a confrontation that led to the victims’ safe recovery.
Security forces have launched a manhunt for other members of the kidnapping ring who escaped during the operation.
No official police statement has yet detailed the identities of the deceased suspects or whether any arrests have been made. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
