••January Paychecks Shrunk, Promotions Frozen, and Minimum Wage Hopes Dashed,

Mercy Okpe, Abuja .

Federal workers are expressing widespread discontent over significantly reduced January salaries, the absence of annual increments, and the continued delay in implementing promised wage increases and promotions. Many workers reported receiving substantially lower paychecks this month than anticipated, compounding their frustration. The customary January salary increment, relied upon by many, was also notably absent.
Adding to their woes, numerous employees across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are reporting stalled promotions. This stagnation has left many feeling undervalued and demoralized, impacting morale and productivity. The long-awaited implementation of the new minimum wage, intended to provide financial relief, has also been agonizingly slow. Judiciary staff, specifically, are still awaiting the 25/35% salary increment that has been pending for an extended period.
These combined issues have created a climate of frustration and demotivation among federal workers. They are now urging relevant authorities to take swift action to rectify the salary discrepancies, implement overdue promotions, and fulfill the promise of the new minimum wage and pending salary adjustments.
