The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has deployed operatives across the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory to monitor the February 21, 2026 council elections, as part of efforts to safeguard electoral integrity.
In a press release issued ahead of the polls, the Commission said the move is aimed at tackling voter inducement and preventing other forms of electoral malpractice during the exercise.
Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, charged deployed officers to maintain strict surveillance throughout the voting process.
He emphasised the need for vigilance across all council areas to deter vote buying and ensure compliance with electoral laws.
According to the statement, EFCC operatives are strategically positioned across the FCT to monitor activities at polling units and other critical points, with a mandate to promote transparency and accountability in the conduct of the elections.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting credible electoral processes and warned that any individual or group found engaging in financial inducement or related offences would face appropriate legal consequences.
The FCT council polls are expected to draw significant participation, with authorities reiterating calls for peaceful and lawful conduct by voters and political actors alike.
