The ongoing power struggle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) intensified on Thursday, with a faction of the party warning former Sports Minister and party chieftain, Bolaji Abdullahi, to stop presenting himself as the official spokesperson.

In a strongly worded statement, the faction led by Nafiu Bala accused Abdullahi of “misleading” the public and violating party rules. The statement, issued by Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, the faction’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, called on Abdullahi to immediately cease using the ADC’s name and title.

“This assertion is not only misleading but also a violation of the established protocols that govern the appointment of individuals to such critical positions within our party,” the statement read.
According to the faction, the role of Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson requires a candidate to meet specific, non-negotiable criteria, including:
Being a registered and active ADC member.
Obtaining a nomination form and securing nominations from at least three members across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Being elected to the position at the party’s National Convention.
The statement asserted that Bolaji Abdullahi does not meet any of these requirements. “His continued self-identification in this capacity is not only unauthorised but also undermines the credibility of our party,” it concluded.
The faction also urged media organizations and journalists to stop recognizing Abdullahi as an official party representative. The statement emphasized that doing so would help maintain the accuracy and authenticity of reporting.

This latest development follows a series of escalating events within the ADC. The crisis deepened on Wednesday when Nafiu Bala, who has declared himself the authentic chairman, resumed at the party’s headquarters. In a swift counter-move, Bolaji Abdullahi dismissed Bala as a “charlatan,” signaling a clear division at the heart of the party.
