says the matter is before the courts and that he will clear his name.
Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of posing as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, on Thursday denied any wrongdoing and said the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, was aware of his appointment.
Adeyemi, who faces allegations of impersonation and related offences, told Channels TV’s Politics Today by telephone that the matter is already before a court and that he expects to be vindicated.
“Definitely, if I am wrong, let the court do that; if I am right, let the court do the right thing,” he said. “Since the matter is in court, let the court of competent jurisdiction vindicate me. I am ready to clear my name. My lawyers are involved and will be monitoring the process.”
Asked whether he was avoiding the law, Adeyemi replied: “Not at all. I am not a criminal. The court will do justice.”
On whether Gbajabiamila knew about his appointment, he said: “Yes,” and when asked if confirmation came through the Chief of Staff’s office he replied: “Yes — let the court vindicate all those things.”
Adeyemi also addressed accusations that the agencies he claimed to lead do not exist. “For one second, let us assume the agency does not exist,” he said. “Would I have the audacity to go all over the country meeting heads of ministries and agencies if I knew the agency did not exist? I could not have summoned the courage to be going from one place to another for almost three years.”
He added that he was “a bit down” and on medication but did not provide further details about his health.
The allegations against Adeyemi remain subject to ongoing legal proceedings.
