With the choice of which zone to produce the next substantive national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) appearing to have been narrowed to North Central, trouble appears to have broken out of the Nasaraw state group hoping to field former state governor, Tanko Al Makura.
As gathered, with power largely resting in the governor caucus comprising past and present governors of APC, there are fears being entertained on the choice of the Nasaraw State governor.
The choice of Al Makura is being discouraged on two fronts, one being his health status, and the previous experience under Adams Oshiomole, who was a former governor of Edo State.
The politician said though that his observation is not discriminatory in any form, after all Al Makura performed creditably well as governor for eight years even with having what has been discribed as progressive hearing loss, but then and now is quite different.
As a governor, there are many things you can get away with because you have executive power and you are surrounded with immunity.
“But it is not so as party’s national chairman. You will have to deal with very powerful elements with and without the party,” the source told ElombahNews.
The online newspaper also learnt that AlMakura still suffers soreness after a heap replacement surgery he underwent in 2014.
But the bigger worry for stakeholders in the party is the fear of his being a former governor. The fear is that governors have their interests which they never shed even after leaving office.
This, according to them, is what results in party crisis like in the case of Oshiomole.
