Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has undertaken a significant reshuffle of his executive council and key state agencies, approving new commissioners, board chairmen, managing directors, and executive secretaries to strengthen governance across the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, disclosed the appointments on Wednesday, noting that Barrister Osinachi Nnajieze and Dr C.O.C. Egumgbe have been nominated as commissioners-designate, with their confirmations pending at the Enugu State House of Assembly.
Key agency appointments include Kenechukwu Nnamani as Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority and James Chukwuemeka Mbah as Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board. Other notable assignments are Dr Eric Oluedo as Executive Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Mrs Sylvia Onwubuemeli as Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Library Board, and Monday Diamond Ani as State Coordinator of the Community and Social Development Agency.
Governor Mbah also reconstituted the Governing Board of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board. The new board features Hon. Afam Nnaji, Dr Mrs Uche Eze, Dr Mrs Oge Uka, and senatorial district representatives: Mrs Rita Chimaobi Ihemeje (Enugu West), Mrs Justina Ugwu (Enugu North), and Dr Nnenna Ogbonna (Enugu East). Additional members include representatives from the Nigeria Union of Teachers, state women groups, and the Secretary of the Board.
Other strategic appointments include Dr Mrs Nneka Onyebuchi and Patrick Onwe to the Post Primary Schools Management Board, Barrister Nwabueze Ugwu as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Enugu State College of Education Technical, and Chief Nwabueze Nnamani as Board Chairman of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation. Richard Onaga and Hon. Bob Itanyi were named Managing Directors of the Enugu State Waste Management Agency and the Enugu State Transport Company, respectively.
Additional appointments were confirmed for the aviation, smart city development, and road maintenance sectors, including Barrister Richard Agu as Board Chairman of Enugu Air and Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi as Board Chairman of the New Enugu Smart City Development Authority.
Prof. Onyia stated that all appointments, except those pending legislative confirmation, take immediate effect. He emphasised the governor’s expectation that the appointees would leverage their expertise and dedication to drive “effective governance and sustainable development in Enugu State.”
