Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Peter Obafemi, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of what he described as “low performance” in its three years in office, vowing to “rescue” the state if elected in 2026.

Obafemi, an aviation expert and former public servant, made the remarks on Friday in Ado Ekiti while officially declaring his intention to contest the June 20, 2026 governorship election under the PDP banner. He said Ekiti residents were eager for a return of the PDP to power, citing what he called the “failure” of the current government to deliver tangible results.

“Just go to the streets and tell us whether you can see what the APC government has done. You will see nothing. The current government is very low on performance. Ekiti people should expect liberation from the wilderness. We have been in the wilderness for too long  almost 29 years of our existence as a state,” Obafemi said.

The PDP aspirant argued that “for too long, our state has been plagued by inequality, injustice and corruption,” adding, “the voices of the marginalised and oppressed have been silenced. But today, we say enough is enough.”

Obafemi, who last contested for governor over a decade ago, stressed that his campaign motto, Ekiti First, was aimed at ushering in a new era of peace, security, economic growth, and prudent financial management.

“Today, we rise up and demand a better future for ourselves, our children and our communities. We stand at a crossroads, where the path we choose will determine the future of our great state,” he said.

He pledged to bring over 30 years of experience in public service, private enterprise, and community engagement to governance, promising a leadership style anchored on “innovation, inclusion, integrity and honesty.”

“I have created solutions where others saw obstacles. Now, I step forward to build a new government. My return to seek the governorship seat is to unseat the present government and put our state on a steady course of development,” Obafemi declared.

The Director-General of the Peter Obafemi Organisation, Kunle Ogunjobi, urged party members to remain united and committed.

“We are not just fighting for power; we are fighting for the future of our state, the welfare of our people and the dignity of our party,” Ogunjobi said.

He assured Ekiti residents that the PDP would focus on “responsible leadership, good governance and people-centred policies,” with a commitment to revitalising the economy, improving infrastructure, and enhancing citizens’ quality of life.
