Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has begun an investigation into a petition filed by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, against the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the petition, submitted by Dangote in his capacity as Chairman of Dangote Industries, is now under formal review by the EFCC as part of its preliminary investigative process.

The move marks a significant escalation in a high-profile dispute involving one of Nigeria’s most powerful business figures and a key former regulator in the country’s petroleum sector.

While details of the allegations contained in the petition have not been made public, the EFCC’s action signals that the anti-corruption agency considers the claims serious enough to warrant investigation.

Neither Dangote Industries nor Farouk Ahmed has issued an official statement on the development as of the time of reporting.

The EFCC has also yet to provide further clarification on the scope or timeline of the investigation, but officials say the process will follow due legal procedures.

The case is expected to draw intense public and industry attention, given its potential implications for Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory environment and the broader relationship between government agencies and major private sector players.
