Abia State Governor Alex Otti has dismissed growing political speculation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, saying his sole focus remains fixing the state and delivering tangible improvements for residents.

Speaking during a public engagement in Umuahia, Otti said discussions about future elections were a distraction from the urgent task of governance, stressing that his administration is committed to rebuilding Abia’s institutions and infrastructure.

“Fixing Abia is my priority, not the 2027 elections,” the governor said, underscoring his determination to concentrate on service delivery rather than political calculations.

Otti highlighted ongoing reforms in critical sectors, including road construction, healthcare, education and civil service restructuring, which he said were already yielding results. According to him, restoring public confidence in government requires visible action and prudent management of state resources.

The governor also called on residents to hold his administration accountable, noting that meaningful change would only be achieved through collective effort and sustained focus.

Since assuming office, Otti has repeatedly emphasised transparency, fiscal discipline and people-centred governance as the pillars of his leadership, distancing himself from early campaign narratives ahead of the next election cycle.

His remarks come amid increasing political activity nationwide, as parties and interest groups begin to position themselves for the 2027 polls.
