BREAKING: The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to carry out coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi states.
According to intelligence reports shared with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, ISWAP operatives are believed to be mobilising in forested areas and may be targeting civilian populations and infrastructure in both states.
The DSS has urged heightened security surveillance and proactive deployment of troops to vulnerable areas, particularly in border communities where the group may attempt to exploit weak security presence.
Military sources have confirmed that operations are already underway to neutralise the threat, with joint patrols and intelligence-driven operations being intensified across key flashpoints.
This alert comes amid rising concerns over the shifting tactics of insurgent groups, who are increasingly moving from the North-East into other parts of the country. Security analysts have long warned that states in the Middle Belt and South-West could face spillover violence if coordinated counter-terrorism efforts are not sustained.
The DSS has called on residents in Ondo and Kogi to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and cooperate fully with security agencies.
Authorities are assuring the public that all necessary steps are being taken to protect lives and maintain national security.
