Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency has opened a fresh investigation into former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami after weapons were reportedly discovered at a property linked to him in Kebbi State, officials familiar with the matter say.
Security sources told local media that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) carried out a search at the residence, during which arms were allegedly recovered. Details of the items found and the circumstances surrounding the operation have not been officially disclosed.
The DSS has yet to issue a formal statement on the development, but sources say the probe is ongoing and forms part of wider security and intelligence efforts.
Malami, who served as Nigeria’s attorney general and justice minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has not publicly responded to the allegations. There was also no immediate comment from his legal representatives.
The reported discovery has triggered intense political and public debate, given Malami’s former role as the country’s chief law officer and a key figure in the previous administration.
Kebbi State authorities have likewise remained silent, as calls grow for transparency and due process amid the unfolding investigation.
Under Nigerian law, individuals under investigation are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
