Heavy security has been deployed at the Kano State Government House amid mounting speculation that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may announce a defection from his current political party later today.
Security operatives, including police and other law enforcement agencies, were stationed in and around the Government House early on Tuesday, with access routes reportedly restricted and movements closely monitored.
Sources familiar with the situation told Al Jazeera-style reporters that the heightened security presence is linked to anticipated political developments involving the governor, although no official confirmation has been issued by the state government.
Officials at the Government House declined to comment on the purpose of the security build-up, while the police have yet to release a formal statement explaining the deployment.
Governor Yusuf, who has been at the centre of intense political speculation in recent weeks, has not publicly confirmed plans to defect. However, rumours of a possible switch have fuelled anxiety among party supporters and rival political camps in the state.
Kano is one of Nigeria’s most politically influential states, and any change in party allegiance by its governor could have significant implications for the country’s evolving political landscape.
As events unfold, residents and political observers remain on edge, awaiting clarity from the governor and relevant authorities.
