Political commentator Bwala has criticised what he describes as a double standard in recent calls for the resignation of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu. Speaking on the matter, Bwala contrasted the current situation with the 2014-2015 period when former President Goodluck Jonathan faced widespread calls to step down over escalating insecurity.
“When Asiwaju Bola Tinubu called for then-President Jonathan to resign, it was a legitimate call in response to the security challenges of the time,” Bwala said. “However, the same reasoning cannot be applied to calls for President Tinubu to resign today. It is not legitimate under the current circumstances.”
Bwala’s comments highlight ongoing debates about the role of accountability and political consistency in Nigeria, as well as differing public expectations of leadership during periods of national concern.
