Former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has strongly advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against readmitting politicians who abandoned the party during its most challenging periods.
Speaking emphatically at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Dr. Aliyu stressed the importance of protecting the party’s integrity. He cautioned against opening its doors to individuals who only seek to return when it conveniently serves their interests.
“Those who left the party when we needed them most should not be welcomed back,” Dr. Aliyu declared. “We must draw the line and make it clear that loyalty has consequences. People cannot keep running in and out of the party at will.”
The former governor’s remarks underscore a growing sentiment within the PDP for greater discipline and commitment from its members. He argued that allowing unprincipled returns undermines the efforts of loyal members and sets a dangerous precedent.
Dr. Aliyu urged the PDP leadership to prioritize rebuilding a disciplined and loyal opposition, particularly as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify. He emphasized that the party’s focus should be on strengthening its internal structure and fostering unwavering commitment, rather than readmitting politicians who have demonstrated disloyalty in the past.
He further called on party leaders to recognize and reward those who have remained steadfast and committed to the PDP through thick and thin over the years. This, he believes, will incentivize loyalty and create a more cohesive and formidable political force moving forward.
