The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly denied allegations linking it or its members to a purported attack on the daughter of former Delta State governor, James Ibori.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party described the claims as “false, malicious and politically motivated”, insisting that it had no involvement in any act of violence against the family of the former governor.
The rebuttal follows reports alleging that the former governor’s daughter was attacked in what some sources suggested could be politically connected. However, the APC maintained that such narratives were designed to tarnish its image and inflame political tensions in the state.
“The Delta APC has no reason whatsoever to engage in or sponsor any act of violence against any individual, regardless of political affiliation,” the party said, urging security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
The party further called on political actors in the state to refrain from making unverified allegations capable of heightening tension, stressing that Delta State must not be plunged into unnecessary political hostility.
While sympathising with the family over the reported incident, the APC emphasised the need for facts to guide public discourse, warning against what it described as attempts to weaponise misinformation for partisan gain.
Efforts to obtain an official response from representatives of the Ibori family were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
