The Kano State Government has said that the corruption allegations previously levelled against former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje remain a matter for the courts and are unaffected by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, made the clarification while addressing journalists on the status of the allegations and the state government’s position.
According to Waiya, the accusations against Ganduje are still undergoing judicial processes, stressing that political developments do not invalidate ongoing legal proceedings.
“The corruption allegation is still before judicial processes,” he said. “Kano is evolving, and we are bringing everyone on board.”
He added that Ganduje has not been found guilty of the allegations, underscoring the principle of presumption of innocence until proven otherwise by a competent court of law.
Waiya noted that the state government’s priority is to ensure inclusive governance and stability as Kano navigates its political and developmental journey. He maintained that legal matters must be allowed to run their full course without political interference.
The commissioner’s remarks come amid heightened political discussions in the state following shifts in party alignments and renewed public interest in past corruption claims involving key political figures.
Observers say the development highlights the complex intersection of politics and accountability, as Kano continues to witness significant political realignments.
