Daniel Regha has joined the ongoing debate surrounding Nigerian music stars Wizkid and May D, defending May D against criticism from Wizkid’s associate, Tufab. The controversy sparked after May D’s recent performance at the Hushpuppi Cup in Lagos attracted reactions online, including a mocking tweet from Tufab.

Tufab had tweeted, “For May D mind, he dey perform for O2 Arena. Sold Out,” aiming to highlight the difference in scale between Wizkid’s and May D’s performances. In response, Daniel Regha asserted that May D’s career path could have been different, saying, “Wizkid and May D might be on the same level today if he (May D) associated with the right people from the beginning.”

He criticised Tufab for ridiculing May D, adding, “His career isn’t booming at the moment, but there’s no justifiable reason why Tufab should ridicule him. And this ‘I praised you’ defence act from Tufab is gaslighting, you don’t mock someone then switch up when called out.”

Daniel Regha’s comments sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some fans agreeing that association and proper management are critical for success in the entertainment industry. One user noted, “May D was pure talent 13 to 15 years ago and trust me if he was signed by someone like Don Jazzy, he would still be very relevant.”

Others felt Tufab’s mockery was unwarranted and disrespectful, emphasizing that ridiculing another artist’s source of income is uncalled for. As one comment stated, “You don’t praise people by mocking them. That’s just clout chasing in disguise.”

The debate highlights the wider conversations about career management, influence, and respect within Nigeria’s music industry, especially for artists who once dominated the scene but have since seen a decline in their prominence.

May D, once one of Nigeria’s hottest talents, continues to garner support from fans and industry insiders alike, while the rivalry between Wizkid’s camp and critics remains active.
