The Federal High Court has scheduled January 7, 2026, for a ruling on the bail applications of former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), his wife Bashir Asabe, and son Abubakar Abdulaziz. The trio face charges of money laundering brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Emeka Nwite fixed the date after hearing arguments from both sides on Friday. Defence counsel Joseph Daudu (SAN) and EFCC prosecutor Ekele Iheanacho (SAN) presented their submissions before the court.

The EFCC, in charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/700/2025, alleges that the defendants engaged in suspicious financial transactions and attempted to conceal the origins of billions of naira through bank accounts and property acquisitions in Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi between 2015 and 2025. The offences reportedly occurred during Malami’s tenure as AGF under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

The commission accuses the defendants of conspiracy, money laundering, and acquiring properties with funds suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, violating the Money Laundering (Prohibition and Prevention) Acts of 2011 and 2022.

Further details will follow as the case develops.
