A court has adjourned the bail hearing of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to March 31, prolonging uncertainty around the high-profile case.

The decision, delivered during proceedings on Tuesday, means El-Rufai will remain in legal limbo as arguments over his bail application continue. His legal team had earlier urged the court to grant him bail, citing constitutional rights and the need to prepare his defence outside custody.

Prosecutors, however, opposed the application, raising concerns over the nature of the allegations and the potential risks tied to his release.

The adjournment has drawn attention across Nigeria’s political landscape, with supporters and critics closely monitoring developments. Analysts say the case could have broader implications for political accountability and judicial independence in the country.

The court is expected to reconvene on March 31 to hear further arguments and possibly deliver a ruling on the bail application.
