Residents of several communities in Gwagwalada Area Council have called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to prioritise the rehabilitation and construction of key access roads that remain in deplorable condition.

The affected areas include Sheik Hamdan Secondary School axis, Mater Dei, Almohass, Royal Spring, Old Kutunku, Specialist–Kaida, Jeremiah Useni Road, and surrounding communities. During a joint community meeting held on Saturday, residents expressed concern that the continued neglect of these roads could worsen both social and security challenges in the region.

Community leaders praised the FCT Minister for the ongoing road construction projects being implemented across the council areas, noting that the urban renewal efforts were already transforming the look and feel of parts of Gwagwalada.

“We sincerely appreciate the Minister’s efforts so far,” a community representative said. “The roadworks have brought a level of development that aligns the local council areas with city standards, but we urge him not to forget the roads yet to be touched.”

In addition to the listed roads, residents urged the Minister to pay attention to the dilapidated road leading to the Hajj Camp in Gwagwalada. They believe its reconstruction would significantly ease transportation challenges in the community.

Although some contractors have reportedly demobilised from the area, residents said they remain optimistic that a second phase of road projects will be awarded in the 2025 budget cycle.

“We trust that the Honourable Minister will not leave us behind in the second batch of road projects,” another local leader added.

Beyond roads, the communities are appealing for more infrastructure, including the provision of solar-powered street lights, expansion of the pipe-borne water system, and the completion of the abandoned Gwagwalada General Hospital.
