A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in the Oyo State capital on 15 November 2025, in a ruling that could trigger fresh turmoil within the opposition party.

In its judgement, the court declared the convention invalid, effectively voiding the outcomes and decisions reached at the gathering. The judge held that the process leading to the convention and the event itself failed to comply with relevant legal and party provisions, rendering its resolutions untenable in law.

The court further issued an order restraining Mr Turaki and several others who emerged from the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the PDP. The ruling bars them from acting or presenting themselves in any official capacity on behalf of the party pending compliance with the court’s directives.

Legal observers say the decision may have far-reaching implications for the PDP’s internal leadership structure and could prompt a reorganisation of its national hierarchy. It also opens the door for further legal and political manoeuvres among rival factions within the party.

As of the time of filing this report, the PDP had yet to issue an official response to the judgement. Party insiders, however, indicated that consultations were underway to determine the next line of action, including the possibility of an appeal.

The development adds a new layer of uncertainty to the party’s affairs, with members and supporters awaiting clarity on the way forward.
