Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu spent Monday, 19 January 2026, touring 3 Division, Nigerian Army, to check combat readiness and upgrade living conditions for troops in the region.

The visit—one stop on a country-wide inspection circuit—zeroed-in on current security operations and on lifting the spirits of soldiers keeping the peace in Plateau and neighbouring states.

“The welfare of our personnel is a top priority,” the COAS noted during the inspection. “A well-housed and motivated force is essential for the successful execution of our mandate to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria.”

Enhancing troop welfare
Shaibu cut the ribbon on two brand-new accommodation blocks that will house 60 families and opened an extra set of twin flats. The projects are part of a wider push to give soldiers and their dependants decent places to live.
He walked the grounds with Major General Folunsho Oyinlola, GOC 3 Division and Commander Operation Enduring Peace, sizing up renovation jobs already under way and checking that welfare facilities meet standard.

Operational readiness
Briefings on the security picture inside 3 Division’s area topped the agenda. Shaibu told officers and men the Army will keep protecting lives and property, and he urged them to stay disciplined and take the fight to any threat.

The tour underlines the Army’s resolve to keep pressure on criminal groups in Plateau while looking after the rank and file.
