The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned newly aligned political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rauf Aregbesola, to follow all legal and constitutional steps before participating fully in its coalition activities.

The warning was delivered on Monday in Abuja during a press conference addressed by NEC representative Ado Dauda emphasised that all new entrants must first resign formally from their former political parties and register at the ADC ward level in their home states.

He  said that while the ADC welcomed the influx of respected political leaders, coalition-building must be grounded in transparency, legality, and internal democracy.

“These are non-negotiable requirements under the Electoral Act and the ADC Constitution,” Dauda said.

“Failure to comply risks legal challenges and undermines the credibility of the coalition.”

Dauda reaffirmed his commitment to steering the party towards a National Convention within 90 days, pledging to maintain order and constitutional procedure throughout the process.

The ADC also warned against what it described as unconstitutional takeover attempts, dismissing as fake a resignation letter allegedly signed by Bala and reaffirming his leadership in line with Article 14.3 of the party constitution.

The Board of Trustees and State Chairmen expressed gratitude to outgoing National Chairman Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu for his leadership, while urging members to remain calm and united despite leadership disputes.

He  said the party will seek formal recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for his acting chairmanship, noting that INEC’s current records still list the pre-July NEC as the legitimate leadership.

The ADC called on members to be vigilant, report irregularities, and ensure no non-member occupies any party office.

Reiterating its progressive values, the party said it remains committed to integrity, the rule of law, and inclusive governance as it works to build a credible coalition capable of advancing Nigeria’s democratic transformation.
